this is the most unique album of the WHA!? history
the concept is simple
we took the old instrumentals and mashed them with very well known new songs
then the whole material was mastered by Celebrity Murder Party
and the result is amazing
the Forgotten Hits is the biggest fun in this summer since the JesusPhone

I woke up today & my first thought was 'Simon's new collection is out today!' Then the internet went off & I got mighty aggravated! Now it's back & I am all over this.Back later with comment. That's an incredibly appealing cover.Mighty artistic.
Yes,I sure do.Mind you,I was trying to be brutal with these reviews. Please don't throw things at me,lol.
01-Good one.It really made me smile.Perfect for roller-skating too.
02-It's great.What a combo,yet they soar!Understated with great sound.
03-Yes,I like it.The sax competes with the vocals at that point, however I do like sax,so that's okay..What an unexpected sound.I'm so surprised I like this one. That background song is really sappy. The vocals elevate it much.
04-Sorry,it didn't appeal to me.It didn't repell me at all,but didn't bring me aboard.Perhaps a softer approach to the vocal tone.Is that a trumpet?
05-s'okay.there's a distortion to the voice that shears my head off in places.Intentional,I'm sure, but it seems to grab too much attention. After 3 minutes,it really changed & pulled me in more.
06-Works very nicely. The older tunes can have a harshness of production. Here,it retains a bit much of that. The piano is a bit irritating. The rest I liked much.
07-Marvelous & appealing.Big kudos to you for this one.
08-Well,alright.This plays great.haha,they didn't really have rap back then,only squaredance-calling.lol
09-I can't believe this works,It has a difficult feel to the vocal/backing interplay, but it really works.I can't quit smiling. The horns sound fine on this number.
10-Ayup,this is mighty enjoyable.I liked the sounds that moved around.Good 'n'noisy at some parts.
11-Well,I wasn't too sure about this but it does have some charms.Somehow the vocals didn't do it for me with that backing. The production is likeable & the samples welcome.
12-Moar fuzz! It's very good.Overcomes the toxic distaste I've developed from overplay.Great sound.
13-Super-great.This one has a splendid soundscape & is an inspired pairing.
14-I had a hard time with this style.Very well-made obviously,though.Even with sinatra singing,I don't think I would'a liked this one.You got'ta understand.I grew up on punk & this would'a killed me,once.
15-Very good.Most creative.
16-Not comfortable too much with the vocal pitching, but otherwise, just great.I always loved that b jaxx track & it's a good fit here.
I must tip my hat to y'all for taking this risk & making it pay off so well.I will assuredly replay this, especially on Sundays when I like to break up all the dance & rock with something different.
11-Well,I wasn't too sure about this but it does have some charms.Somehow the vocals didn't do it for me with that backing. The production is likeable & the samples welcome.
Hehe. Fair enough! After listening to everyone else's tracks, I'm very much taken with all of their work far beyond my own on #11. I especially love the work done by Simon, LDM101 and Celebrity Murder Party. In any case, thanks for giving it a listen!
In all honesty,I warmed up to it on re-plays.It was when I heard it on Clivester's show.I said to myself 'Hey! That sounds way better than I thought."
It's like They Might be Giants.I always have a difficult time getting into their new records & then they quickly become big faves.
At first listen I thought there where a few interesting tracks.
At second listen I realized that this is an excellent and very original compilation.
This album does not depend on the familiarity of the source material and confidentially claims it's own space. (Hmm, now I get an urgency to digg in to my Tito Puente recordings)

All Glory To The Hypnotoad!
yes since Forgotten Hits was recommended on the Boing Boing in Saturday downloads went crazy. The Forgotten Hits did as much in 4 days, like other WHA!? albums did in 10 - 14 days
But it is OK, the freeblog can resist the heat and the torrent is huge help.
The ppl are so nice, they seed it after they downloaded, there were even 57 seeders one time! Swweeeet
I made the follow up post and I will update it with the happenings.
Feel free to use the built in streaming player in your sites, and drop me a mail if you have any news about the Forgotten Hits!
Getting it via torrent now, there is currently 7 seeds and 1 peer, its downloading pretty fast too so will keep it seeding too.
Simon does that download count include the ones from mininova which are currently 756?
some of it yes
but it showed up in many torrent sites and there are also some mirrors and stuff for the regular downloads so my statistix are under the real value
but it is not that important, just a number
the main thing is that so many ppl are enjoying the album worldwide
AND
I have good news for today as well
the Forgotten Hits been mentioned / recommened on the stereogum as well
it is in their B-Sides & Outtakes section [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
